Chankanaab?

We are going to be in Cozumel on Jan. 1. I was wondering if Chankanaab was back or not. The ladies wanted to do the dolphin swim and the guys were going to do the beginner scuba( we did this last time there and it was a blast plus it was only $55). If it is not back to shape is there anywhere else recommended to do the scuba diving?

Chankanaab is definitely open, although I haven't been there since they reopened.

Looks like the Discover Diving is now up to $65. Also seems to be a coupon for $2 off admission.

I suspect the dolphins are popular - if planning on doing a reservation might not be a bad thing.

I have done the dolphin swim in Chankanaab and it was a blast. I watched the Samantha Brown cruise to the Western Caribbean on the travel channel and she did the dolphin swim at the park. From what I could see of the park, most of it is gone. Such a shame.

Lisa, I thought they said that Chankanaab was gone. It will take years and years for it to come back. That's something that only nature can do. As you said - it's such a shame.

It's a state park so it has all the funding it needs.

The beach was man made to begin with, so all they needed to do was haul truckloads of sand in. Purchase and plant mature palm trees and instant Paradise.

The dolphin swim areas obviously have been rebuilt or they wouldn't have the tours.

It will take years for the shallow coral to grow back, but I think everything else is substantially back.

Not sure when the show was taped, but imagine it was months ago ??
